Weekend Reset in Folkestone, kent

We’ve all experienced burn out before. Sometimes the best thing is to take a break from our daily routine and get a change of scenery, even if its just one night.

What better place to recharge than a trip to the coast, you just cant beat that sea air!

Today, Dianna from @DestinationDelve2025 tells us about her spontaneous trip to the Kent coast and why Folkestone was the perfect destination for a short break.

Folkestone Kent

Escape to the Kent Coast

Folkestone is a charming coastal town in the South East in the county of Kent, England. We visited in the School Summer Holidays during August 2023 and I decided spontaneously to book something for the night as I felt at the time, my daughter and I needed a change of scenery. Time to recharge our batteries and reset - being a Solo Parent it is a full time job! When we came back we felt refreshed and revived, ready to reset our daily lives!

Getting to folkestone

As I already live in Kent and didn't want to drive we decided to jump on a train. Trains from London to Folkestone are operated by South Eastern, who offer frequent services throughout the day taking between 53 minutes and 1 hour 36 minutes, depending on the service.

Departure Stations in London are - London St Pancras International or London Bridge to Folkestone Central.

Staying in folkestone

View Hotel Folkestone by @DestinationDelve2025

We booked the View Hotel which is a 4 star boutique hotel which is situated on the famous Leas in Folkestone, it has breathtaking panoramic views of the English channel, with a captivating seafront, it has easy access to to the charming town centre, which is teeming with vibrant shops and attractions. We decided on this hotel because of the location and I wanted a sea view of the ocean from our room as the sea is a grounding place for me and it didn't disappoint! Plus I had seen someone post it as a recommendation on a social media platform and I wanted to visit. The hotel has a stylish bar and restaurant that offers coffee, lunches, dinner, cocktails and everything in between with beautiful sea views and is child and dog friendly. They also have a garden with a terrace so you can bask in the beautiful sunshine admiring the views.

As we were there for one night we took a wander through the cobbled streets, filled with independent shops, galleries and cafes, these lead down to the harbour and the Quarterhouse. We walked along the harbour arm enjoying the views of the sea and the white cliffs, at the end of the arm is a quaint restored lighthouse, where you can grab a drink or an ice cream. On our second day there we went to Lower Leas Coastal Park - perfect for families - it has an adventure play area, and plenty of picnic spots, also perfect to see lots of wildlife - play on the beach and take a paddle in the sea. Just outside Folkestone you have Port Lympne Safari Park and Howletts Wildlife Animal Park which are great places to take the whole family.

For a weekend away or a day trip I would wholeheartedly recommend Folkestone as a fantastic family-friendly destination, with a good mix of outdoor adventures, cultural attractions and lots of seaside fun.
